Ultralight Backpacking Lantern

Finally, someone came out with an ultralight backpacking lantern. With candle lanterns you need candles which are made of paraffin which is a dense material with weight. A three pack of spare candles will weigh 5 more ounces. Not to mention the steel, aluminum and glass the lantern is made of. A good candle lantern can weigh 6.4 to 8.8 ounces with a candle. Together that is 13 ounces, a pound is 16 ounces.

With a gas lantern you have the lantern and fuel cell. Together they weigh almost a pound. The size: 6 inches X 3.5 inches X 3 inches, almost 63 cubic inches, is also an issue when you want to reduce the size of your pack.

Glo- Toob was developed in 2002 by a pair of scuba divers. The product was designed to replace chemical light sticks as light sticks leak, is a single use item, unrelialable, does not produce enough light and is a pollutant.

The light from the Glo- Toob is emitted 360 degrees. Some models have a brightness level adjustment and an adjustable strobe function. The advantage of LED lights is they remain cool, will not start fires or producer poisonous gasses such as carbon monoxide from candles and liquid fuels.
